Jasper de Bock (2003) is a composer and pianist from Best (Netherlands).
He started composing at the age of 7 when he found an old keyboard in the attic of his house
and hasn’t stopped since. His work often has to do with the past, whether that is by taking something from it,
destroying it, mourning it, a lost state of innocence. Sometimes it is theatrical, often using repetition,
hammering the same motif over and over or obsessively rattling on about something. Often intense, often rhythmic,
often with an emphasis on pitch and melody, and always with an emphasis on the physicality of the performer(s).
De Bock studied composition at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague with Martijn Padding and Jan van de Putte,
graduating summa cum laude with distinction in 2025.
He has won numerous awards and competitions such as the Royale
Conservatoire prize for Young Composers (twice); the Future symphony competition; the
first, second, and third prize of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Festival Composition Competition in
Saint-Petersburg; the first prize in the national Princess Christina Concours for composition.
De Bock's music has been performed by numerous orchestras and ensembles all over the world such as the
Lithuania national symphony orchestra, Asko|Schonberg Ensemble, the Dutch wind ensemble, New European ensemble, Ereprijs Orchestra, St. Petersburg
Governor’s Symphony Orchestra, the Residentie Orchestra, The Dutch National Youth Orchestra and many others.
